about
We Survive is the first single off their upcoming debut album, slated for release in mid-2020. Powered by Helen O'Roke's bold rhythmic drumming and Heleyni Pratley's 60's inspired psychedelic vocal layering, The Happy Plaster explores the climate emergency, pussy hats and the age of strong-man politics against a backdrop of undulating noisy guitars. Listening to 'We Survive' is a drive though the current atmosphere of change and despair, where the vista gives way to reveal a warm embracing rainbow of sound.
“This song is ultimately about the hope that we can get our shit together” says guitarist and vocalist Heleyni Pratley.
“It’s about the idea that if we wake up fast and recognise that this is an emergency - that the Amazon is in fact on fire - we may have a chance to change the apocalyptic course we are headed on. While writing this song, I’d heard about a proposal that some of the worlds leading scientists had made to get funding to effectively build a gigantic, massive ice making machine and pump this ice out in the north and South Poles! So that we might be able to mitigate the effects of climate change. It sounded so fantastical like something out of a Disney movie but also, like a Disney movie, it gave me a tone of hope, I really want to believe it’s real so that’s really what influenced the song.
Oh and Scientists were marching in the USA, to remind everyone that science is real! And Trump, being Trump. Pussies, just all the pussy stuff, the hats, the comments. The corruption and deceptiveness entering the political discourse in a much more out there way. So ‘We Survive’ is about us surviving the physical climate attacks but also people’s dignity as well - like here’s hoping we don’t enter a new dark age"
lyrics
Black, white shirts on
Come a co co melion
round the hall you tip toe
is she even gonna show
come a co co melion
red blue jeans on
I can't keep my distance
gotta trump the great show
Come a co co melion
get ya PUSSY HAT On!
round the house ya tip toe
is she even gonna show?
Look over there in the library?
Where? Over there!
In the online library!
Look over there in the library?
Where? In the fridge!
Of the science laboratory!
Sparkling moon dust arrives,
comets near Saturn, collide
lovers kissing while locked inside
heres hoping the arctic will survive
let moon dust shower you
with such perfect sight
we survive
red wine green eyes
mean girls a nice surprise
gotta keep my distance
gotta keep the cool show
running on
Locking lips while locked inside
twitters gonna justify
twitters gonna justify
whats going on
Look over there in the library?
Where? Over there!
In the online libry!
Look over there in the library?
Where? In the fridge!
Of the science laboratory!
Sparkling moon dust arrives,
comets near Saturn, collide
lovers kissing while locked inside
heres hoping the arctic will survive
let moon dust shower you
with such perfect sight
we survive
Sparkling moon dust arrives,
all the pink hats cheer! Were gonna be alright!
lovers kissing while locked inside
heres hoping we all don't get fried alive
let moon dust shower you
with such perfect sight
we survive
